2 teaspoons of tomato based BBQ sauce
2 teaspoons of mayonnaise
2 tablespoons of Sauerkraut (pickled cabbage)
2 teaspoons of soft butter
2 slices of pumpernickel or rye bread
6 slices of Pastrami preferably Huntly
1 slice Swiss Cheese, Emmentale or Jarlsberg, 3mls thick
Warm pastrami in microwave or steam it (pref). Make the Russian dressing by combining the BBQ sauce and Mayo in a bowl. If you like add a teaspoon of sweet pickle relish to the bowl.
Squeeze the kraut and drain as much liquid as possible. Put on a paper towel until you are ready to assemble the sandwich.
Paint the melted butter on the outside of each slice of the bread and spread the Russian dressing on the inside.
Layer on top the sliced pastrami, the kraut then the cheese .
Put the lid on it and grill. Make sure you don't burn it.
Cut in half on an angle and serve with chips and a beer.
